Policy Statement
Smart Steps Ltd. trading as Smart Steps is committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment for all children and families.
We value diversity and are committed to promoting equality, inclusion, participation, dignity, and respect throughout the service.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to explain how Smart Steps promotes inclusion and equality in everyday practice.
This policy supports the service in creating an environment where every child feels welcomed, respected, supported, and included.
Scope
This policy applies to all children attending Smart Steps, their parents/guardians, and all staff responsible for supporting children within the service.
It applies to admissions, activities, daily practice, communication, relationships, and the general operation of the service.
Inclusive Practice
Inclusion is part of everyday life within Smart Steps.
We support inclusive practice by:
planning activities that can be adapted where possible
encouraging all children to participate
recognising different strengths, needs, abilities, and learning styles
adapting resources, routines, or approaches where reasonably possible
creating an environment where children feel a sense of belonging
Equality, Diversity and Respect
Smart Steps promotes an environment free from prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping.
We aim to reflect and respect the diversity of children, families, staff, and the wider community. Children are encouraged to respect differences, value diversity, and treat others with kindness and fairness.
Supporting Children with Additional Needs
Smart Steps recognises that some children may require additional support to participate fully in the service.
Where possible, we work in partnership with parents/guardians and relevant professionals to support children’s participation, wellbeing, and inclusion within the service.
Partnership with Parents/Guardians
We value the role of parents/guardians and believe that partnership with families is essential to inclusive practice.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to share information that will help us to understand and support their child’s needs, interests, wellbeing, and participation within the service.
Staff Responsibilities
All staff are expected to promote inclusion, equality, dignity, and respect in their daily practice.
Staff should model respectful behaviour, support children’s participation, challenge discriminatory language or behaviour appropriately, and work positively with children, families, and colleagues.
Complaints
Any issues or concerns regarding the implementation of this policy should be addressed in line with the Smart Steps Complaints Policy and Procedures.
